Sofa Sunday in Mallorca: Short Showers, Sun Returns on Monday

Suddenly gray instead of gold: A rainy Sunday brought a noticeable cool-down on Mallorca. But don't worry — starting Monday, it will be friendlier again.

Rain showers instead of October sun – a real sofa Sunday

Today morning I walked across Passeig Mallorca with a coffee in hand — okay, not really, but that's how it feels when you look out the window at gray rooftops and wet streets. Palma started under a thick cloud cover; from late morning there were short, strong showers again and again. Sometimes as if from buckets, sometimes just a fine drizzle. Perfect to cozy up on the sofa with a blanket and take the day slowly.

Wind, fresh air and a few degrees cooler

The rain was accompanied in places by gusty wind. In the city the high temperatures stayed around 17 to 18 degrees, further up in the Serra de Tramuntana the thermometer locally dropped to about 12 degrees. If you had planned a walk on the Esplanade or to the Portixol harbor today, you should have been grateful for the weatherproof jacket — the fishermen there wore hoodies.

The Spanish weather agency Aemet anticipated that the showers would occur repeatedly until evening. In the night to Monday it will get noticeably cooler, with low temperatures around 12 degrees — in some places even slightly below. So: crack the windows a bit, don't turn the heater all the way yet, but an extra blanket makes sense.

Monday milder again – Tuesday almost spring-like

Good news for everyone who wants sun: already on Monday a friendlier picture is forming. The cloudiness lightens, and the daytime temperatures climb back to around 21 to 22 degrees. Tuesday could be quite pleasant — I heard 23 degrees are possible. Perfect for a trip to the coast or a long walk through the old town, past cafes on Carrer de Sant Miquel, where cups could be outside again.

Wednesday: Pack away the umbrella

The peace does not last forever. By midweek thicker cloud fields are likely to move in from the west again. For Wednesday afternoon there is a small chance of rain. In short: pack the umbrella, but panic is overblown. From Thursday it should again stay calmer and milder — classic late autumn on Mallorca: a brief spell of rain, then sun.

If you are out today: avoid puddles at the corners of Plaça Major, drive slower in the old town alleys, and give the tram driver on the Avinguda an extra second. And for those who intentionally savor the cozy Sunday — have fun, I'm envious.
